M-160 Soviet 160mm Mortar

The Soviet M-160 breach-loading mortar was developed in the 1950's.

This mortar is huge, with a 14'-9" barrel and a 4'-10" diameter baseplate. (Note the photo with an 82mm mortar in the foreground for comparison)

Due to the barrel length, the barrel is hinged and tilts so that the 92-pound projectile can be breech-loaded. While the normal mortar bomb is a 92# HE Projectile, this weapon like many in the era was also nuclear capable.

We acquired this mortar from Israel. It was in Syrian service and we believe it was captured in either the 1967 or 1973 war. There is battle damage to the upper portion of the tube. It is all from one direction with bullet impacts and what appears to be artillery shrapnel damage.

The mortar was restored to the distinctive color used by Syria. The original color was the typical green in use by the Soviet Union.

This model mortar is still present in Russian service, Syria, and likely a few others.
