M1937, 25mm Puteaux

The M1937 Puteaux is an improvement to the earlier M1934 Hotchkiss.

Intended as an anti-tank cannon like the M1934, it was quickly obsolete in an anti-tank role due to the increasingly heavier armor in German tanks by the start of the war.

The M1937 however, was still useful in an infantry support role. After the fall of France, the Germans used captured guns primarily along the coast in preparation for the anticipated Allied invasion.

Post war, the M34 and M37 were common to find in most of the French Colonial countries.
