This turreted machine gun emplacement was part of a beach defensive line at a currently unknown location on the Aleutian Islands.

 

The emplacements were probably constructed in 1943 or early 1944 after the islands were recovered from Japanese forces. The rotating cast turret housed twin M1919 .30 caliber machine guns. Traversing was achieved with a manually operated crank. The buried lower portion is heavy steel, with offset openings for steel pipe tunnel connections to adjacent turrets. The condition is as recovered approximately 25 years ago.

 

It is an interesting and historical artifact from a largely unknown WWII campaign.
