Powerful cannon still in use.
This D-44 is referred to as a D44M with the M denoting "Modernized". It was Polish-made in 1959 and modernized in the 1970's with the addition of an electrical system and lights.
It is in original condition as part of a group obtained directly from the Polish government in 2014. We believe the remaining cannons subsequently went to Ukraine.
Note the cracks in the shield, which have been welded. These repairs were made while the cannon was in Polish military service. Our experience with hardened steel in other applications is there can be a tendency to crack between bolt or rivet locations. Vibration or shock, such as firing a cannon, can cause the stress. Ultra low temperatures aggravates the tendency to crack. Poland can be very cold.
We consider the cracks and repairs to be part of this cannon's history. We know it was actually used and not just sitting in a depot.
This cannon includes cut breach parts and the telescopic direct fire scope. Inert 85mm Drill Rounds are available in used or new condition.
